Giving Youth Opportunities

The Youth Opportunity Scholarships (YOS) program gives young people a chance to discover a passion beyond the classroom. In partnership with the Philanthropic Ventures Foundation, the Lampert Byrd Foundation’s YOS program helps kids take part in activities of their choosing that help forge identity, inspire grit and develop a sense of agency.

Partnering with Bay Area Nonprofits & Schools

YOS partners with Bay Area nonprofits and schools to offer the program to middle school students in grades 6, 7, and 8. This provides a chance for students to dream big and try something new and exciting that sparks their imagination.

Research shows that youth with “identity projects” – (hobbies and passions that inspire grit) have significantly higher rates of high school graduation and are more likely to be in school or working after high school.

Student Scholarships

Students can apply for scholarships of up to $250 to pursue extracurricular activities of their choosing, such as dance classes, music lessons, sports and athletics, creative arts, summer camps, and more. Learn more about eligibility and how to apply.
